Hi,

Suddenly got a 1ppm reading on my nitrite - did 50% water change but still got the same reading. How can this be?

Set-up is 3 weeks olds
got 10 zebra danios in it
water been ok to date - been changing 25% water every 3rd day
350 litre tank
Using proper liquid test kits

did you cycle your tank?
what are you water parameters?
ammonia
nitrite
nitrate

I'm going to take a stab and say, he is cycling it with the Danios?

I'd be making daily water changes a priority, until Am/nI readings are 0ppm.

lol, way to point out the obvious  (not ment in a ruded way, supost to be in a funny way)

still did you let the tank run for a week before adding the fish, i add food for the forst 5 days on the last 2 days stop so it rots away, then add hardy fish.

10 danios is WAY too many to cycle the tank, its like pouring in half a bottle of ammonia and wondering why you're getting spikes :p

Loads of water changes and a few prayers.

Get some "Prime"

Itis fantastic for these situations.

Claims to detoxify nitrite and from my experience does a pretty good job!!!

why is 10 too many?

only like having 3 in a 100 litre tank.

added some prime and carried out another water change nitrite is now between 0.25 and 0.5

water is crystal clear and fish look happy and nicely coloured.

you realise all your doing here is putting the fish in water with high levels of ammonia? then when they poo adding more ammonia? you would be better off without the rotting food if your going to do the fish in cycle

letting the filter run for a week will do nothing at all, even with rotting food in like i have said will just build up the ammonia before you add the fish :(
