Hey all,

I set up a 4ft tropical fish tank and left it 2 weeks. I then put 4 angels, 4 neons, 3 guramies. A few days later 2 angels died showing no signs of disease. A week after this some brown alge has apeared. A few days after this I bought 4 more angels, a 8in sliver shark and 2 6in clown loachs. I also bought a Nitrite test and tested the water in the 4ft tank before i put the fish in and it showed 1.6mg which is way to high (ment to be 0.3mg). So I have temperaraly put the shark, angles and clown loaches in another 4ft tank with had livebearers in, not good I know. That was 3 days a go and yesterday and I did a 30% water change in the new 4ft tank and replaced it with good mature water from another tank. The Nitrate level in that tank is now 1.0 which is much better. The 3 guramies, 4 neons and the remaining 2 angels are still alive and the shark, 4 angles and clown loaches havent killed any livebearers yet, but the shark is a active and liks to trash about.

I was wandering when I coule put the shark, clown loaches and the 4 angles with the rest of the fish in the new 4ft tank??? Would the clown loaches bring down the nitrite level??? Should I put more plants in???? Should I put a new filter sponge in the filter????

Cheers

I have just done the nitrite test again and it has come up 0.3 and its ment to be -0.3, sorry for the error in the post above.

I was gonna put the silver shark in the tank in about 30min. Because it does stress the other fish in the tank which its in now because it trashing about about a bit.

Cheers

the tank should have been cycled so nitrite is 0 and detectable nitrate- do daily part water changes until nitrite reads 0 then test water regularly and do partial water changes weekly.
if you get hi nitrates from then on you either have dirty filter/gravel or are over feeding

Thanks for the help,

shall i put the shark, clown loachers or angels in now???

Cheers
