nitrite playing silly devils

i seem to be having difficulty with my nitrate readings, at 1.6 AFTER cycling my tank within one day of them being 0. no fish died not overfeeding and have added a green x phosphate pad, which doesn't seem to have worked at all, anyone know how long these things take and/or have any suggestions why i get this reading

Do you mean nitrIte?

How long was tank cycling for? what are other readings? Have you added any new fish? (this may cause readings to spike)....
