Hi, i have a problem, my ammonia is fine, along with my ph, but my Nitrites and Nitrates are quite high. i have done some water chnages (25%) and i'm not feeding the fish loads, only had them in since saturday, and they seem fine, but i'm abit worried about the levels and if they die. What can i do to solve this problem, or reduce the levels?

Keep up with daily water changes im affraid. if you look at the begginner section FAQ's there is information on the nitrogen cycle in the the new tank syndrome pinned thread. First ammonia rises, then falls as the nitrites rise (meaning the ammonia has been converted into nitrites), and then eventually they are converted into nitrates as the bacteria colony develops. Water changes will help to keep these levels lower.

Im affraid thats one of the hazzards of cycling with fish. A lot of people choose fishless cycling (just do a search on the site, theres tonnes of info for next time.)

What fish do you have...some fish cope better than other in a cycling tank..

Cheers

Guppys and a Blue Gourami

So will the levels then begin to go down soon?

Cheers Dale.

I advise you to find a LFS thats sells bactinettes
and add them to your tank.
batinettes are the nitrifying bacteria and will eat a massive ammount of
ammonia, NO2 & even NO3
