Nitrates

Despite regular water changes my nitrAtes seems ot have settled at between 25 and 50.

Is this normal or should I still be trying to get it down?

Have you tested your tap water yet? Its not uncommon to have a low nitrate reading from the tap water itself so water changes may only aid so much

For future referance, anything under 100 is fine for nitrate

I don't have much to add here, but as a guideline, measure the nitrAte level in your tap water and aim for your tank water to be about the same. If the level in your tank starts to creep up above the level from the tap, that would suggest that more regular water changes are required.
