Hi Guys

I am trying to get my nitrate levels down which at the mo are 40, i know its not huge but could be better. I have been doing 20% water changes every day for the last week and am still having no joy. It wasn't til today that i had the brainwave of testing my tap water  and yep you guessed it, high nitrate levels. Have any of you had any joy with nitrate removal ie nitrazorb, nitrasafe etc, if so which would you definately reccomend to me

Cheers

Real plants, and just water changes i'm afraid, could add another filter to try and keep nitrates down, but at 40 it's not to serious, never tryed anything to fetch them down, so can't help out much in that area.

40 nitrates although high, isn't serious or harmful to the majority of fish, it may limit your fish a bit to not having particually fragile ones but thats about it.
Plants can help remove it and will help aid your bacterial processing cycle but i would avoid any artificial products as they either tend to do nothing or just cause lots of complications.

I've got a fairly well planted tank already as you can see below its just i wanted to get the nitrates right down if possible cos it will limit what a can keep in the future.Like i said i keep doing water changes and it never drops below 30.

Cheers

if there's nitrates in your tap water, there's no point doing water changes everyday to bring it down

and from 40 to low levels (5-10ppm) is going to take massive plants
I have a 20 gallon wiht lotsa of plants, 0ppm from the tap, and nitrates stay at 5 ppm after 4-5 days

I can't imagine bringing down that much. I guess you'll have to live with it, or switch to RO water or something
