Well I'm on day 11 of fishless cycling my 55 gallon tank and my nitrite readings seem to almost double everyday and now today I noticed my nitrates are starting to go up. Looks like I'm getting closer. I'm assuming I'm lucky because I've heard doing this can take a long time for a lot of people.

Fishless cycling tends to be quicker than cycling with fish :) Still, that is pretty quick.

Well, I'll really be happy when the ammonia starts going down. I lowered the dosage of ammonia to 2-3 tsps because I think 4-5 was too much.

Almost there

The bacteria that make nitrates out of nitrites take longer to populate though.

I remember my ammonia dropped two 0 in two days after I noticed my first drop.

The nitrites took forever to reach 0 however, though they were barely noticeable on the test. The water just got a pink tint after about 3-4 minutes and the test asks to verify after 2. So I'm guessing there is close to none in the water.
