hiya, was thinkin' of adding some Z' Danios , i have heard that they can nip, has anyone who have kept Z Danios experienced this?

Yes, they can get nippy at times, thats why they must be kept in groups of 6+. I'd recommend keeping 8 of them. Also, I'd recommend a tank size of 15gallons+

I see (from your sig) that you have tetras at present in the tank. In that case, the danios shouldn't be a problem. They're playful fish, and fun to watch. One of my favourites :)

I've never had problems with Danio's nipping - each other or other fish.
And have to wonder if people are sure they actually see Danio's nip - and not just playfully chase ?

They do however sometimes chase each other at crazy speeds.

Good point. I've never noticed any nipped fins and mine playfully chase eachother all the time. But they keep it to themsleves though. I've never seen the danios bother any other kind of fish.

Danios can be too active for other fish, tetras aern't a problem with danios as long as they themselves are in large enough numbers but some fish like delta tailed fancy guppys can get too stressed out by active danios zooming around the tank.

I kept a dwarf gourami (male) with danios and he seemed oblivous to the danios presence except when he used to lunge towards them if they got too close. They can be really grumpy and to be honest I don't like their attitude, but have plenty of character :D

But yeah danios and dwarf gouramis are fine together but maybe a wee bit too quick sometimes.

thank whatever power you belive in that you havn't
I have and it is not a pretty sight.
I have also seen a Zebra danio kill another fish before anything could be done to stop it.

All problems with danio aggression can be stopped by keeping in a large enough group and a large enough space.

That to me goes without saying :) but guess it had to be pointed out.
Most fish kept in non-ideal circumstances will probably revolt in some way or manner.

The only agression Ive seen out of mine is the Alpha Female showing she is boss and Ive learned this is normal. She only does it to the other danios. I also have 7 and they focus on each other. They have the whole upper level of the tank to themselves in a 30 US gallon and I have not seen any aggression out of them yet.

i have 2 Z danios and 2 leopard danios (1 long finned) me dad thinks they boring he prefers colourful fish but i like colour with something active i currently have em with 3 widows and 5 serpai plus a sucking loach and i not noticed any problems with them nipping any fish at all. 1 Z & 1 leopard danios are still small and new additions but the other 2 are full grown and have spawned but i put the babies in to quick and the widows got em (wont do that again) but the 2 larger danios tend to chase each other and leave the 2 smaller 1s alone most the time.
