Hi All fish looking bad.
I have 2 swords that have been nipped at baddly.
One lost alot of dorsal fin and the other lost most of a pectoral fin.
can these grow back.
Along with them I have 4 mollies, a betta and a little yellow shrimp.
The readings are all fine and water temp is 80 degrees.
any help.

They can grow back, yes, but who is nipping who? Might want to try to find the culprit so it doesnt continue to happen, and maybe dose a bit of salt to help with their slime coat and to keep infection at bay.

I had the same problem with my neons (my gouramis thought they were food :D ). I returned the aggressive gouramis and added API's Melafix for some days to inhibit bacterial infections. It also says on the bottle: "All natural, extracted from tea trees. Rapidly repairs damaged fins, ulcers, and open wounds. Promotes regrowth of damaged tissue and fins." After maybe 4-5 days I saw improvement and no bacterial infections occurred. You might want to transfer your betta to another tank; I think he is the one nipping your swords. By the way I add salt to my tank water for every water change, so salt might have helped as Rynofasho has mentioned.

Good luck.

Do you mean regular table salt. How much can I use for a 20 gal tank.
To bad I love that beta. I can find the real culprit. They must be doing it in the dark.

I'm afraid table salt is no good, you will need aquarium salt(Api do a small carton with dosage info).

Not table salt!! Use aquarium salt and follow the instructions on the package.

Well what you find in table salt is part of aquarium salt (has chlorine salts of Na, Mg, etc). I use API aquarium salt. Says on the carton that you need 1 rounded tablespoon for every 5 US gallon (~19L).

Well I don't thinks its the beta. tonight I found it all nipped. Has to be one of the Mollies. I don't understand why within less then a week one of them started nipping all of a sudden. Could it be the temperature. I have raised it higher recently.
