Hi I noticed  that one of my red eye tetras has a nipped dorsal fin. it don't look too bad and it is eating and swimming fine should I add API aquarium salt or melafix.

I have 12 red eye tetras and one firemouth cichlid.

just don't wont it to get infected

any advice would be appreciated

Small fin nips usually heal with no problem.  My serpae tetras nip each other daily and grow back the missing sections of their fins.

I would just monitor it to be honest and see what happens. Its not advisable to add medication/treatments unless absolutely necessary.

Make sure your water is in tip top condition and it should heal up fine, but do keep an eye out for any signs of fungus.

When I had a large shoal of tiger barbs, every spring there'd be a female with no tail left

and they always healed and grew back perfectly with no treatment.
