Just bought a male and female of the above....they have some great colours! Am looking to breed them in my 3 ft community tank equipped with 5 green barbs and 3 zebra loaches. They only went in today but are staying under the bogwood, despite putting a cut, upside down plant pot in one corner which I believe is what they like to breed in??

Do I just no wait?!!

Anyone else have this breed? I have been told that they might take the tank over when breeding and scare the rest of the fish to death?!! Anyone else hvae breedings in a community tank?
If this is the case, would it be OK to rehome the parents once they have spawned to save the rest of the tank?!!

I have never breed these fish nor do I know very much about them. If you just got them I wouldnt expect them to be breeding right away. They need to settle in a little before anything. Breeding most cichlids is pretty easy as long as there kept properly and tank condidtions are good.

They are one of the Pelivcachromis Taeniatus colour morphs. I have the Bipindi strain.

Mine are coupled up and on the verge of breeding and it has taken almost 5 weeks for them to reach this stage. They do seem a bit shyer than regular kribs so patience is the key.

The plant pot should work. It is all about when the male accepts the female, expect her to do all the running. Live food appears to get them in the mood as well as a 50% water change.

I've seen some articles say that mimicking a thunder storm and lowering the temperature can induce them to breed as well.

Good luck they are great fish, I had a pair of Nigerians a few years ago who had just started breeding when I got moved abroad with my job.

P.S. They will become more aggressive when breeding, but sometimes it is best to have a tank with dither fish so they don't take the aggression out on each other. Territories are normally about 18" square.
