Hi, just wondering the best "home" to set up for a pictus in my tank?

eg. a cave made out of rocks, pvc piping, etc.

What do they like the best?

oops almost forgot, how wide should it be to accomadate its feelers/barbels?

pictus cats don't tend to hide away, during the day mine cruise around behind the wood and in between the plants where the shade is.

they are also ment to be kept in groups so if you bought another 2-3 you should see a difference in it's behavious as they interact with each other.

what sort of tank size is ok for 2-3 of these folks...

We really like them but also like the smaller tetras etc so have never had any... But with a larger tank in the pipelines we'll have more room in other tanks, leaving the small fish in large schools in the big un.

I would say a good size 3ft would be mininum providing there's alot of open swimming space.

My pictus almost full grown now do well in my 350l 4ft which is planted and plenty of wood but quite large open areas up front, sides and around the back a bit.

You don't want to put a Pictus with like Neon Tetras.. Make sure the Tetras you get are big enough they don't fit in the Catfishes mouth :hyper: I made the mistake when I first got my tank the b/f wanted a Pictus Cat... Ok.. They are cool... I wanted Neons.. We got a Pictus and about 16 Neons... The Neons slowly started to disappear. He grew to be a good 5 inches. :flex: ..HHMMMM.... I didn't know that the Cat was a tad carnivorous :shifty: Now I know and he is in a different tank with bigger fish...LOL

I dunno about the Tetras...they would be a tempting to a pim...Good filtration is a good idea too as they can be quite messy due to their diet...If you kept them well fed you might be able to do it..Lots of ricks/bogwood/low lever plants work good..anything that will provide cover for them during the day...HIH

that was why we've never had the pims... due to the tetras :)

the tetras will be in a different tank to the pims
