Hiya all, I have read on the species index the info on nics. I have 2 youngsters (roughly 2 & 3") but reading the info says the male is larger but the female is more colourful. The two I have are from the same brood (same age) and I am starting to get that ominous feeling that I have got a male and female as one is becomming more colourful than the other, however the more colourful one is the larger one? if they are male and female could the female just be growing that bit faster and the other will catch up?

The male will stay more yellow than the female, who will develope a lovely blue colouration around the face and front of the body. Males can reach around 8", the female around 6", so it may just be that the female is eating more and growing faster.

Thanks Mags, yep the bigger one is getting tinges of blue in the face where the smaller one is yellow! ho hum lol

When keeping two of any cichlid your nearly always going to get a dominant one which for a time will outgrow the other,

and from the experiences that Mags and I have had with our individual Nics it does sound like the Female may be the more territorial out of the two within this species
