I’m new to posting but ive been reading for months - fascinated.

I’ve set up an 80L freshwater tank for my son, its been cycled (with media from my LFS) and my levels have settled at amm -0 nitrite - 0 Nitrate 20. The PH is 7.6 and the brown algae has nearly gone thanks to 2 very hungry zebra snails.

I’ve now got 6.5 flame tetras (one is deformed but happy) and 6 Silver tip tetras (who are completely mental).

Its been stable for a month now, I know ive only got room for a couple of extra fish, can anyone recommend anything a little bigger maybe something like a pair of fish that would fit the bill.

Ideally larger than the tetras but not that will grow past 7cm say.

Also would this be OK fish wise - it’s internally filtered and stocked fully with plants and has C02.

Also I may add a couple of shrimp later but waiting till its 6 months old first.

Cheers everybody

If your LFS has very good stock, and can be relied upon to get you some good ones, dwarf gouramis would fit the bill perfectly. A trio of one male and two females would be ideal and in a planted tank they tend to breed quite readily which would be interesting for your son to learn about. :)

Dwarf gouramis are cool, but if the tank is in an area of a lot of activity (like a familyroom), they might hide allot . You could add a few platies. There active and fun and are very hardy. Or maybe even a swordtail, but they get sort of big. These are indiviual ideas, I wouldnt add platies, swordtails AND dwarf gouramis to you tank because then you would be over stocked!

I think in your situation, a few platys of different colors would be really cool. Platies are typically only like $3.
