Hello

Just joined... we're new to fish and just started with some coldwater ones :)

Got a problem tho...

Set the tank up a couple of weeks ago with plants and rock, etc and all was ok when we tested the water. However, have now introduced our first fish (a week ago 2moro) a small shoal of 5 white clouds, and 1 seems ill :(

It's gone very pale in colour and i'm sure it wasnt like that before.

tested the water friday night before panning on gettin another fish this weekend, and discovered ammonia was up to 1ppm (am guessing down to uneaten food which is provoing quite tricky to remove with the fine gravel we have) so we did partial water change. tested again this morning and still the same so did another partial change.

Anyways, just spotted this afternoon about the sick white cloud and dont know what to do :(

We dont wanna kill a fish... i mean, i know it's only a fish, but i feel a bit sad for him being ill :(

help!

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Carry on with the partial water changes.
Cut down on your feeding, 5 WCM's will only need the tiniest amount of food just once a day. Bear in mind a fish's stomach is approx the size of it's eye, so you can use this as a guide.

Don't buy any more fish, for the next few weeks as your filters need time to mature.

Cheers Anita... best advice i've received re fish to date! thanks v much :)

Never realy thought about how big their stomach would be... we've been waaaay over feeding em, so no wonder the water was a bit high in ammonia.

Yeah... we're holding off on more until the tank is stabilised and we know what we're doing is right :)

Good luck :)
