Hiya,

Im Ally and im from South Wales

I have a 90/100 litre tank, with 3 mollies and 5 Tetra

I would like a crab but they are too dangerous for my little fishies :(

I hope to buy some more fish in the next few weeks :)

Quick question, whats the most 'stress free' way to put new fish into a tank?

The last time, we put the fish (in the bags we got them from in the shop) into the water for about half an hour, then we gradually filled the bag up with the other water from the tank, then left the fish to swim out, then we took the bags out of the tank, is that way ok? I dont want them to get stressed and die!!!

:hi: Welcome to TFF, Ally!!!

You did fine until you let the fish swim out of the bag. That allowed the water from the pet store tank into your tank and allowed any illnesses/diseases to come in with them. You do need pour some tank water into the bag, to acclimate them to your tank temp, ph, etc., but in the future you would do better not to let any of the bag water into your tank. It may stress the fish a little more for you to catch them in the bag and put them in the tank, but in the long run it is better for their health. I'd hate to see your whole tank wiped out because of adding a new fish.

Ideally, new fish should be quarantined in a seperate tank for a couple of weeks before they are put into the regular tank for the same reason. If they have any illness or disease you would be able to catch it before it spread to your other fish.

HTH.

And again, Welcome!

:hi: Ally.

What eudielynn said.

I have always done what you do, but netting them from the bag is reccomended. Ask your lfs how they quarantine thier new fish stock, if they look bewildered, very carefully acclimatise, then net from the bag or find a better lfs. If they say they keep them quarantined for 2 weeks or more in a seperate water system, they pass the test.

If your lfs quarantine the fish, then you do, they are getting stressed too often IMO.

 So sorry to hear you have sick fishys. If you already know what is wrong with them then I am sure you have probably checked out the recommended treatments. If not, there are several good pinned items and threads on TFF that should help. Hope they all get to feeling better soon. :byebye:

welcome ally! The fish may have come with that on them already. But its fairly easy to treat!
