Hi

I'm zampa. I'm new to any forum. Is this to early to ask a question. If not, can someone please help, I have been running my tank for 6 days now and I have what appears a film on the surface. It looks like it is small bubbles but, when I move my finger in the water you can see a clear streak. I have done a 50% water change to no avail. Main body of water is clear. I have added cycle and Safeguard. My tank is a 180ltr if this helps.

many thanks

:/

Hi zampa and welcome to the forum. :hi:

Sorry you haven't gotten a response to this yet. Not a lot of people come into the beginners section. You will get a better response if you post this in the Chit Chat or Beginners Sections. I too have to deal with a film on the water surface. It's just something in my water. It can also come as the result of getting grease in the tank if you stick your hands in with hand lotion or something like that on them.

There are a couple ways to get rid of it. You can take a paper towel and lay it on the surface to soak it up. You can tank a small cup and stick it just under the surface to skim it off . You can also add an air stone/air pump to create some surface disturbance to keep it broken up. If you have a hang on back type filter, you can also lower the water level a little to create a splash to break it up. The latter 2 methods may not be too good if you have a planted tank though as it creates extra oxygenization (not good for plants). Hope this helps.

Thanks rdd1952 for the info, I shall give your ideas a go. And thanks for the welcome.

Many thanks :)
