Hi,

I am a newbie and have just setup my first tropical fish tank today!!

I wish i had remembered this site before getting the tank. The LFS suggested 5 neon tetras to cycle the tank!!! Poor blighters have been in a tank which had been matured for 1/2 a day

Currently the tank has no plants which i am hoping to rectify.
Do i need plants for the tank to cycle properly and which plants are easiest to keep.
Also i have thousands of tiny air bubbles covering the entire tank, including the gravel and equipment, will these go with time?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you can take the neons back, please do. They definitely won't make it through the cycling process, not even far enough to get you started good. If you want to cycle with fish, try danios but I would suggest a fishless cycle. What size tank do you have?

Tank is 60 litres.

Good suggestion about the LFS i'll try and swap them for danios tomorrow

60l is about 15 gallon. You won't be able to put a lot of fish in it, definitely not any big fish. Small tetras like neons would be great if you can get it cycled. Good luck.
