Hello all
Hopefully someone can help ive had tank for about 4 months all has been ok until yesterday I saw a few what looked like white fingerfrints on inside of tank, today there is about 4 and about size of a 50p also white stringy stuff growing from bottom of tank. I have about 15 fish altogether plattys/mollys and a few various tetras although i lost a platty yesterday and a molly today and am now worried its gonna get worse. any help would be very appreciated. thanks

Hmmm...sounds to me like fungus. But the stringy things sound like worms of some sort which could be a parasite. You can get tablets for fungus and parasite problems. Just one tablet per 10 gallon tank. The brand is Jungle (usually get it from Petco or Petsmart but I'm not sure where you are located so I don't know what is available to you). I get their tablets for fungus, parasites, bacteria, ich, and also their water safe tablets for when I've cleaned the tank.I rarely lose fish anymore since I started using those when my fish get sick. Fugus's are usually the aftermath of another disease (usually parasites, bacteria or ich). Check the quality of your tank water too if you haven't already done so. You can get a pretty inexpensive testing kit at your local fish store/pet shop. Read up on fish illnesses too. It always helps to be able to recognize what disease your fish likely has just by looking at it.

Here are some good sites about fish diseases and tank care:

FishDoc
Animal-World
National Fish Pharmaceuticals

Good luck!
