Newbie To Rifts. Advice Please!

Hi, I have been keeping fish for over twenty years but never rifts. I am looking to set up a large (7 foot) tank in the near future. I am interested in mainly small ( 5 inches or less) , non- aggressive species that look a bit different as I have noticed that a lot of cichlids look a bit samey (no offence!). any advice would be great, also is there much difference in temperament/ size between malawis and tangs? Thank you
