Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and kinda new to fishes in general, but during the last thursday me and my girlfriend went to the beaches here in Hawaii and just for fun caught some fishes and thought we could have them as pets ...

we kept them in the beach water and brought some of the seawater with us home so we can change it for them.

Last nite the fishes started turning over and 1 of them even died so I started doing some research and found out that we aren't suppose to use the water from the beach because of the bacteria in it and that we shouldn't even use regular table salt for them either.

So we change the water to regular tap water and the rest of the fishes return to normal and started swimming again. This morning they started to turnoever again so we change the water this time and put table salt into the water and again they returned to normal...

I'm just wondering what is the best way to preserve the fishes without buying a whole set up ... i've got some pictures of them here ...

first of all go get a big tank like 20 gallons or so. you cant keep fish in a bowl. second get a salt water filter and buy some sea salt from the pet store.i beleave its a teaspoon of salt to the gallon. decorate the tank a bit to to make it feel like home. keep the tank filter running for a overnight before putting the fish in.

this is what i would do but im not sure your supposed to take wild fish a keep them as pets. any way good luck with your fish!

without buyinga complete set-up, the best thing to do would be return them to the beach.

you need a bigger setup than a bowl....................

They won't survive in tap water, or with table salt, or in a bowl. Unless you want to start setting up a full tank... and in which case, you'd be better buying fish meant for keeping... you'd be better putting them back and hoping you didn't do too much damage. :)
