Hi,

I'm still pretty new to fish keeping and I have a few questios.

1. Almost all of the fish in my tank have fin rot. I'm treating them with Maracyn-two. I'm almost done with the medication, but my guppie's fins are still looking faded around the edjes and a little torn. My cories fins appier to have pretty much healed. Should I try a differen't medication? my filter still does have the carbon in it and white crystals, but it says on the medication that If the carbon and stuff has been in use for over 6 days than I can use it. My tank stats are nitrite 0, nitrate 10, ph 7.8, and my water is hard. I keep the temparature at about 78 degreas farenhight.

2. I'm a little confused about hospital tanks. Do they need to be cycled before use? My fish are not currently in a hospital tank because almost all of them a re sick.

3 I feed my guppies once a day, and as much as they will eat in about two minuts. I have knowtised them eating algy more than I expected. Do I need to be feeding them twice a day? I feed my cories every few days. I feed them a pinch of frog food, or a peace of an algy wafer. Is this enough?

Thanks for the adice in advance :) .

If the fin rot has not cleared by the end of the first round of medication, I would do a 50% water change to remove the rest of the meds from the water, and start another round of treatment, with the same med. I would also advise removing the carbon from you filter to prevent the meds being absorbed into it, reducing their effects.

A hospital tank or quarantine tank is an extra tank for your sick fish. All you need to do is take a tank, fill it with dechlorinated water and run a cycled filter from your main tank to the QT tank for about a day and then add the fish in. Although it only works if you have more than 1 filter running on your main tank.

As for feeding your fish. They should be fed a variety of foods to keep them healthy like flakes, live or freeze dried foods, and sometimes vegetables. For you kind of fish, I would feed them 2 times a day.
