Hello everyone..This is my first post on this website :) . I am planning on setting up a saltwater tank. I bought a 55 Gal tank with a fluval 304 pump. So i added about 30 Gals of water and added the gravel ( I bought marine gravel ). My issue is I am not sure if i was suppose to prewash this gravel before putting it into the tank. Right now my water is white in color. I have my pump running and hopefully it will clear up but my point is am I suppose to wash it before adding it to my tank?

I decided to take a picture of the mess I created!

Thank you for your time! :p

P.S: I posted this question in the salwater hardware forum also but it seems like that forum doesn't get much activity. Plus i think this might be a better forum to place the question.

yeah, you shoulda rinsed it :*)

can't wait to see it set up though, i don't think i've seen a saltwater tank with gravel yet. what are you putting in it?

It is best to rinse it, bit with the filter running, ang giving gravity a little time to work it should settle out.

I am thinking about placing 2 yellow tangs in there to start. So you have never seen a salt water tank with gravel huh? Hmmm should I even be using gravel for a saltwater tank? I asked the guy at my local pet store and he said it was fine. I guess tomorrow i will take out all the water and rinse the gravel

Sorry to say but IMO you tank isnt big enought for 1 Yellow Tang never mind 2, also when making up a fish list the likes of Tang's are best left to last
