Hi, I just found the forum while looking for info on mollies. My name is Erin, I've been keeping an aquarium for about four or five months now (I've lost count). My aquarium stats :
15 gallon (US gallons) tall, freshwater, gravel substrate
live plants (Aponogeton, some Riccia)
driftwood
Topfin Power Filter 20 (HOB)
2 adult "Fancy Mollies" (female)
2 young "Fancy Mollies" (female)
1 (newly purchased) black Balloon Mollie (female)
2 adult Red Wag Platies (female)
1 young Red Wag Platy (female)
1 (newly purchased) albino (?) Mickey Mouse Platy
I've also got two snails in a breeder box with the Riccia, holding them for my children until they get big enough that one can go into my daughter's 2 gallon betta tank without being eaten. The snails were hitch-hikers with a recent plant purchase my mother made, but my daughter wanted a snail to be her betta's "best friend" so we adopted one, and of course my son wanted one too because his sister had one. I'm thinking of getting him a 2 gallon with a goldfish, or a betta, or something, for his snail, because I'm not sure I want to keep snails in my livebearer tank.
Also, tomorrow I've got to pick up some sort of algae eater ... we did have a plecostamus, but he got to be a size where he couldn't swim without knocking over my plants, so we moved him to my mother's outdoor pond. I was debating getting otocinclus (sp??) instead this time, but I'm not sure how many I'll need for my tank.
I use salt in my tank ... 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. I learned the hard way that mollies are healthier with salt. At least mine are. Will the salt affect otos? How many otos are recommended for a 15 gallon tank? I think that does it for my first post. *grin* Look forward to learning lots here!
