Hi all,

First i must say what an excellent resource this forum is..

I am not new to keeping tropical fish , more of a 25 yr break from Aquatics . A lot has changed since i was fist shown by my grandfather about 'responsible fish keeping' and the rewards that go with it.Now i have a career (well second career after 10 yrs in the military), house with enough space to start a re-newed interest in this pastime.

i have spent two weeks reading and researching and have a 'direction' (for want of a better word)to where i want to go with this, yesterday the Nitrogen cycle,Fishless cycling and the why we do this, why we do that that all dropped into place nicely. A few more equipment comparisons, then purchases and i will progress to my Fishless cycle.

Already had a run in with my LFS , put it this way won't be spending my cash in that place, was just enquiring about tanks, volumes and water chemistry and got a load of ' well i don't know but we have no dead fish' and you will need this chemical and that and you can take fish with you now...needless to say equipped with the knowledge from this forum i walked straight out knowing the retail trap i had just avoided. I have heard positive things about a local Aquatics centre a few miles away which i will vist during the week.

Once again hi . :good:

Hello! Yea, I gotta say a lot of LFS are terrible about fishless cycle. They simply tell you to set up your tank and come back in two days. When I bought my tank, I brought my son with me to get a new fish for his already cycled tank. The fish lady thought the fish was for the tank I was buying right then....and she didn't really have a problem with it. Anyhow, good luck with your new fish!! This forum is very friendly and will give good advice without being rude about it :good:

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Good to see you did not fall into fill your tank with ex ammount of chemicals and add fish trap. I am one of many members who have fishless cycled and yes it can be frustrating but well worth it in the end.

Good luck, Keith.
