Newbie Here Help Needed!

Hi,
I have flirted with the idea of setting up tropical fish tank for the past couple of years and now I'm finally taking the plunge. Anyway I am purchasing a juwel rio 240 litres and I have a few questions on stocking.

Would this be ok for my tank size and are these dish compatible?

8 tiger barbs
6 bosemani rainbows 4f 2m
1 ruby shark
1 gold algae eater

And potentially 3 Bolivian rams ( not sure if they would fit in with this boisterous community tank ).

Anyway any help and advice would be greatly appreciated re. Above and what kind of environment would suit these fish best.

Hi and welcome

Before thinking about stocking have you read the beginners section on here regarding preparing the tank for fish (cycling the filter)?
If not it might be a good idea to have a read so you can decide whether to do a fishless cycle (which is the better method) or a fish-in cycle.

Reading this will help you to prepare for what is ahead.

Hi , the algea eater check first as I think it is the chinese algea eater which is also in gold or albino are great algea eaters when young but grow very quick and then have been known to attach to side of fish and suck the slime coat of them causing problems ,hope this helps I would also do a fishless cycle in tank before adding fish it has a great section on here how to do this as most lfs wont advise this and will save a lot of problems when first starting out also will help save some fish
