Hi

Another newbie!!! From Scotland. We have aquired a 215L Aqua one AR 980 last week as our first ever fish tank. We also seem to have got quite a lot of incorrect advice about fish keeping etc so we are looking forward to finding out what we need to learn from the people on these forums.

We have 17 neon tetras, 2 honey gouramis? and 2 plecs.

We have been doing testing daily as we were advised, and are worried now as we didnt do this cycling thing right.

We were advised to just add Cycle to speed up the process.

current reading are -
Ph is 6.4
Cl2 is 0
KH is 6
GH is 8
NO3 is 0
No2 IS 0

Tank has been running 11 Days and has had fish in it for 8 days.

where abouts in scotland are you and which shops are you using? Keep on top of the water changes and as long as ur ammonia and nitrite stay below .25 your fish should all make it.....although the neons are said to be no good in immature tanks

Hi Tracy :)

first of all welcome

right when you buy a tank/filter tec the filter is the only bit of kit that dosent actually work when you get it ( when i say work i mean dosent break down the nasties ie,fish waste)

currently you are doing whats called a fish in cycle, not the best idea with neons as im sure youll lose most if not all of them
read this IF you cant or are not prepared to return them back to the store and do a fishless cycle

lots of info here for you

have a read of that lot and when your ready to start asking questions fire away :) no question is silly ,there are lots and lots of willing friendly people here to give advice on anything fish related ( sub forums for a few things that arnt too :) )

cycle ( the product) dosent work for everyone, we find good old paitence and water changes are the way to go combined with good advice and a good water testing kit (API freshwater master testing kit) not strips- these have a rep for being very innacurate

Hi Craig

We are in Tayside region, Thanks for the welcome. We were told that we should start with neons in an immature tank :( But everything i have read since says they will be no good. Keep waiting to find them floating.
