Newbie Betta Question

My daughter came home today from a birthday party w/ a male betta as a party favor. I already have a 10 gal. tank w/ a couple platties and 5 tiger barbs, would it be safe or recommended to put the betta in the tank w/ the other fish? Or is this a very bad idea??? I have never had a betta before, but I heard that they are mean/violent when you put more than two male bettas together, but I didn't know if you could tank mate a male betta and other non-bettas.

i would worry about the tiger barbs and the betta.

Barbs will prob nip the betta, most likely attack the platties as they resemble a fighting fish, seen a betta going for young female guppies so must be the general shape not even the long flowing fins, have a breeding trap you can put him in temporarily? or a decent sized net, bit of a silly gift really as if they dont need any looking after

I thought my daughters party bags were full of guff. At least she doesn't get stuff she has to look after.

I think your tank is already fully stocked. Tiger barbs can be vicious. Splendens won't stand a chance with one of them.
