:) Hello! My name is Erica, I have a tank approx 1 foot cubed (approx 27 litres).

Because of this shape, there is good oxygenation of the water and more space for fish to swim.

I have 2 guppies, both female, Soleil (orange tail) and Lunar (Pale blue tail).

I have 5 platys, 2 male, 3 female. 2 males are Mickey (red with black fins) and Mari (golden sunset). 3 females are Minnie (Dark orange with black tail and spots), Laverne (pale yellow with black "scratch" markings on her sides) and Shirley (calico: white face, orange tail, black speckles).

I have some foxtail live plant growing in the tank (so well I have had to prune it back) and two rock caverns for the fish to hide in. Mari makes most use of these rocks as he's the less dominant male.

Oh! I have one little baby!

The male guppy died months ago, he was attacked by the siamese fighter who had previously left him alone... he got fin rot and died too :( that's karma for you.

Soleil the guppy has been looking pregnant for months, since the male died. Minnie is pregnant, but I don't think she's ready yet -- so I don't know whose baby it really is!!

IF it survives (as tank is near "full" I am not too fussed if nature takes it's course) my sister has pre-named it EB (EyeBall) cos that's it's main feature so far. It is eating, I can see it has a dark stomach which comes and goes (dark, gold, dark).

:dunno:

OK well, Hi all!

PS Aside from SIZE, what are the differences between Mollies and Platies??

Bye for now! Erica.

:hi: to the forum.

Not only is the size different, but as is the shape. And with greater size, it means that the mollies can also have more fry in one batch. They also prefer the addition of salt in their water, since certain varieties of mollies live in brackish water. The salt isn't really necessary, though.

Looks like you've got a good livebearer setup now. :nod:

Just some calculations you might like to have. :D

Temperature

C = 5(F-32)
9
F = 9C + 32

Gallons

Length X Width X Height (in inches)
231
1000 cubic centimeters = 1 liter
1 liter of water weighs 1 kilogram
1 cubic foot of water = 6.23 imperial gallons
1 imperial gallon of water weighs10 lb
1 US gallon = .8 imperial gallon (approx)
1 US gallon weighs around 8 1/3 lb
1 imperial gallon = 4.55 liters
1 gallon = 3.78 liters

hi erica :) I like your guppies' names

For future reference it's often a bad plan to keep guppies with a betta because you will notice both type of fish have long, colourful tails. this means that sometimes the betta will mistake the guppie for another betta and try to attack it.
anywho

sounds like a nice tank :)

:blush: yeh found out about how Betas mistake male guppies for other male bettas a little too late. Bluey the Betta had always been very good and quiet. They co-existed for a year before he went crazy... I think it was old age alzheimers or dementia perhaps, I'd had Bluey in an unheated betta-hex (I didn';t know any better at that point) for two years previous to that, so he was at least 3 years old.

:- Minnie is no longer pregnant! I was reading up on how to promote the birth of babies and I did a 1/4 water change last night and voila! :wizard: Minnie's skinny again.
