Hi all, i've just joined after trawling the internet for forums and this is the best.

I've been a tropical fish keeper for around three years now having fallen in love with aquatics through having a Koi pond at my old house. I started off with the usual small 27 litre tank thinking i could put everything under the stars in there, luckily i read up about stocking levels and stuck one Black Moor goldfish in which last 6 months before i gave it to a friend who has a 500 gallon coldwater tank.

Then i was browsing Pets at Home (i know!) and saw the Cardinal Tetra and i fell for them. I bought myself a Deltatherm 50w heater, a new air pump and gave my current filter a good dust down, it was time for a revival! Only this time, i went and bought myself an Aqua One 60 litre in the sale, £30 from Pets at Home. Couldn't really be robbed.

After setting up and fishless cycling for a month, i was given an assortment of guppy, molly and swordtail fry. They were tiny and i had to buy a breeder net so the filter didn't get them. Naturally a few died, and i was left with 7 female guppy of around 7 weeks, and 2 males of around 5 which worked out pretty well in terms of maturity and breeding. I had two mollies left, one male and one female but had exactly the same markings so were obviously litter mates. Strangely i never once caught them courting, nor were there any fry produced. I think the female may have been infertile (good thing!) and she died at around 1 year old leaving my male to ponder life alone! None of the swordtail fry survived unfortunately.

Nowadays i've added more guppies, still got my male molly and i've 7 cardinal tetra, all planted. Happy families! Plenty of guppy babies which my nice local fish shop takes off my hands in return for food which is a cosy little arrangement.

Check the pictures section, i'll be adding my two pennies worth soon!

Cheers, Frazer
