Im new world all the they way, africans are like tetras, you walk upto the tank and they still swim away, there dumb. :D

Love the new world ones, especially the dwarfs all that cichlid attitiude in a tiny size !!Not to fussed on the african lake cichlids (bit garish for my taste!) but don't mind some of the underestimated ones like the egyptian mouth brooder! :p

africans are boring........they got no character...........new worlds are wiked!

I will go new world as im mostly interested in fish from the Amazon basin in South America. I have no interested in the large aggressive cichlids of central america nor the small aggressive ones of the African lakes but i do have a fondness of African river dwelling species which often get seriously over looked in the hobby.

I went African. I love my chromidotilapia finleyi, eventhough I got them by mistake. I think they are great. I have a fair few NW cichlids now, 4 angels and discus but my Africans are much better IMO.

Maybe when I get my discus into their proper tank and get to know them, I'll think differently.

i like New Worlds becuase of their attitude. Each fish is very different and has it's own personality, They are also a lot smatter!

I have kept many fish from both continents. For me, my favorite would have to be the rift lake cichlids. The combonation of the colors, high activity, and general character of these guys makes them so much fun to keep. Most of my SA/CA cichlids are just kinda lazy and sit around. They are only really ever active when breeding. And I still have yet to find any new world cichlid that can compare to the colors of those from the rift lakes.

New world, Why else would my name be dwarfs? :dunno:
The only good africans are the hemichromis, they are pretty smart (jewels, butterfly fish-Hemichromis thomasi-)

No, that would be far from correct :(
Africans are all very unique in their personalities they create very complexed communities and it is easy to develope a very different relation with each fish, again they will not go and hide as soon as you come near the tank if you are a person they recognize, mine always hide of course but once the can see it is me and not another member of my family they come out to greet me and beg for food,
They at least equal and probally beat New worlds with their attitudes, plus they show intense coloration as well as create a very active bus tank.

I assume you nor bean have kept them and as i have not kept New-worlds I think they are slow and floaty  , But would that mean I'm right?

So i vote africans, but :shifty: uh how but just to make it fair we move this to chit-chat or something if your going to be watching the stats

It's obvious just pick.........oranges or apples.
I have to be very partial to the new worlds.Come on now, that type of attitude and well defined personalities are seldom found in other places.I have never kept africans, although I must say some are stunning.

Let see some of my favs...
CD's,I mean discus-----Drop dead gorgeous.Granted, not for everyone and somewhat dificult to keep.
Angels------My personal favs.Personality and beauty,a one two punch combo.
Blue jack dempseys-----Say what.Have you seen those colors on them puppies?
Oscars------Big,bad boys,but..they are so cute.Besides, they will help you redecorate their tank.
I know I am leaving many behind but,we have to move on.......Dwarfs,are you serious?Attitude and beauty combined.I mean.....Have you seen a pair of ramis with a silver cloud of babies swimming around the tank.Have you noticed that fish ten times their size in the corner all shaking scared? That's attitude baby, and most of all, good parenting.

I might sound like I love my cichlids, but in reality..I adore them!

Not a bad idea, your wish is my comand

No, that would be far from correct

i thought he asked for our opinions? and i didn't think opinions had a right or wrong answer

I dont think all Africans are ugly, Frontosa's, jewls, and a couple of others rock. But nothing comes close to the most powerful Cichlid the N.Beani, have you guys seen this thing? wow
