New To Tropicals

Hi!
 
I'm Soph.
 
I currently have one goldfish in a 20g tank (needs upgrading soon as he's still growing!) and I care for two goldfish at the school I work in.
 
I've never had a tropical tank before but I've just acquired a 40g tank (not started up yet) so I'm looking for plenty of advice on planting and stocking. Thanks in advance everyone!
