New to this

Do you have to buy neon tetras from the same shop or can you buy 6 from one shop and 6 from another shop
I have bought 6 today and they seem to be hiding in the corner swimming up and down the tank

To answer the question itself: shoaling fish of the same species will generally shoal together regardless of when/where they are purchased from.

But since you mentioned you are new, I wanted to check that you have the other basics down so that you have a positive experience with fishkeeping

How big is your tank? Do you know what your water parameters are?

I am excited for your neon tetras, hopefully they begin to acclimate over the next couple of days. It may be helpful to keep the lights off in the aquarium for a day or three to help them acclimate to the new surroundings.

In addition to what mcordelia posted, fish which have just been bought are very stressed considering what they've been through. Once they settle in they be out and about more. If the tank lights are very bright, you may find floating plants help them to settle.
