Hiya, my name's Steve but I tend to go by the name britanix on the internet. In case you hadn't guessed I'm from Britain and i'm new to the world of fish keeping.
I used to be a big time bird watcher, however, I suffered an injury to my spine which means I'm in pain for most of the day and walking is quite difficult. So running thru a forest to get a good look at a particular passerine is definitely out of the question. I decided I needed something new to replace my lost hobby. I was at my girlfriend's house and found my self staring at her goldfish whilst she was making dinner and just like that I decided I wanted some of my own.
The next morning I went on the internet and did some research; by that afternoon I was on the hunt for some fish keeping equipment. Unfortunatly in all the pet shops I looked, everything I wanted was way out of my price range. Somewhat disheartend I went to pick up some comics at my local comic book shop (yes, I'm a comic geek too). I got chatting to the owner and told her what had happend and, by some bizzare coincidence, it just so happend that she had a fish tank (with light), filter, gravel and some fake plants she was wanting to get rid of! Because I was a regular customer she gave me the whole lot for £5 (in the shops it would have cost my about £50)!
Happy with my bargin I went home and set up my tank. A few days later I went and got my first two gold fish.
The 26th of August was my Birthday, for which I got, amongst other things, another tank (with heater, filter, gravel and plants) and some tropical fish (although this one is too big to keep in my room like my goldfish tank, so it stays down stairs in the dining room).
So far I have:
In my Upstairs Tank:
Dandy (red capped oranda)
Death (common goldfish (my sister named him by the way))
Dabba (blue oranda)
Downstairs Tank:
4xNeon Tetra
4xDanio
2xRed Phantom Tetra
I got some more tropicals today, but I'm not sure what they are.
(how's that for an introduction?!)
