Hello!

It's been a while since I've had a fish tank, and I've forgotten some things. I have always found forums a great place to learn, so I thought I'd join up here.

For 5 years I had a 75g Freshwater, with Congo Tetras, a Raphael Cat and a T. Natans (Black Rubber Eel). But despite my precautions, (netting over the top of the tank, and a sturdy lid) my eel got out, and was trapped under the solid oak dresser that the tank sat on. I tried to move the dresser, but with that much water and rocks on top, I didn't have a chance. I took out the drawers and cut out the bottom of the dresser, but I wasn't fast enough.
After I lost her, my heart went out of fish keeping. I gave the tank to someone, (who still has them) and went a few years without fish.

However last year, for my birthday, my mom gave me three Mickey Mouse platies, and it all snowballed again from there.

Currently I have the two tanks, but eventually what I really want is to get another T. Natans. The last one I had was so tame she'd take live food from my fingers.

Sorry for rambling on. Glad to be here!

Welcome to TFF!

Not many people are familiar with T. natans, which is a real pity since they are such a cool, interesting and peaceful species. I've got two of them, which happen to be a pair. I love them to death and they are spoiled in a 55gal hi-tech planted tank. They are the unplanters. Mine are hand fed as well, which was all fun and games when they where little, now that they are adults hand feeding does have some risks to it. Mine are also really easy to handle most of the time. To bad yours got out, they really are good escape artists. I've only had it happen a few times during water changes, when I left the lid open.
