Fish Crazy
I used to own a pet store, had the best fish (freshwater) in Grand Rapids Michigan, but that was about 20 years ago (I fogot a lot and there seems to be a lot of new things).
I haven't had a tank set up since then. About 2 years ago I got married and moved to Hawaii. When I got here i started thinking about the tanks I used to set up and wanted to show my wife. I bought a 20gal long but decided i didn't want to set it up in a apartment because it's a pain if you have to move. So I set up a 10 gallon in my wifes classroom (she teaches kindergarden 1st & 2nd). No one ever saw a tank with live plants, in fact most only seen saltwater tanks, here in Hawaii thats whats popular cause you can just go get your fish for free with some snorkle eq.. Everyone was blown away, I just had 5 neons and a male and female beta but it did look great, the plants filled the tank front to back top to bottom so at times you had to look hard for the fish.
The next year I decided to get a real tank, bought a 55gal, the princepal gave me another 55gal and I brought my 20gal long there and set them all up.
I've had trouble with heat ( in michigan you use heaters to keep the water warm enough, here it's tough to keep the temp down) and disease as well as some bad advise from a salesman from a major pet store.
I hope that people in this forum can help me get things running smooth again.
