I just found this forum searching for an answer regarding our Platy. I posted my q and was promptly answer so I have decided to add this site to my favs and become part of the community. There is so much information here, it's amazing!
I am going to be reading this site daily now...I am going to check for an RSS for my google page when I am done typing this message.
M. & I have 3 cats and 6 tanks. We are mostly homebodies, (spend all our extra cash on fish so we don't go out anymore!)
such creatures of comfort, we have the a tank on both sides of the TV, we watch the TV & the cats watch the fish : )
How we got here....It all started with 1 pretty Betta. I was at Walmart and saw the sad shelf of bettas, all in little tupperware cups with blue water. I had to rescue one. So I brought it home, put it in a little bowl and we were happy with him, his name was Louie.
Then in Oct. 2006 M. decided he wanted a tank and got the 25 gallon. From there we went to a 60, then another 12, then a 55. During this frenzy I had to upgrade the bowl to a 2.5 galleon hexagon for my Betta and got him a girlfriend, that didn't work out well so I had to buy another matching 2.5 galleon so they could be neighbors, but not bite each others tails.
It's been 6 months now since M. got his first tank, he's like a chemist with the water testing kits and chemicals and different PH's for each tank. It's a wonderful hobb for him and me, he does all the work and I get to enjoy the tanks!
I get to feed them once in a while, but I am always in trouble for overfeeding...no one starves in this house!
Current Tanks Status: 6 tanks & 28 fish
25g - Planted tank with community fish, 9 neons, 2 gouramis, 1 pleco & a platy.
60g - Amazon Cichlid tank with 1 Oscar (Oscar), 1 Dempsey (Mr. Dempsey), & an Orange Blood Parrot (Mr. Orange - the Lumox) & 1 Plecostomous
55g - Lake Malawi Tank with all African Cichlids - 2 Labs, 1 Venustus, 1 Albino something & 1 Demosoni
12g - 2 African Dwarf Frogs & 1 Rainbow Shark
2.5g - 1 Male Betta (Louie Louie) & 2 Spastic Fantail Guppies
2.5g - 2 Female Bettas
Now we are stuck, electric bill has jumped up, the house hummssss all the time but we love all our fish, cats and especially the Frogs!
