I'm haveing a tough time setting this up. The sand is pretty annoying. I'm also using gravel so that makes it more a pain trying to keep everything separate. I put the water in and now I have a bunch of bubbles on the surface of the sand. I'm trying to pop them all but they keep re-appearing. Is there a way to get rid of the bubbles?

You just made me chuckle. I can imagine this person with a pin and there hand in a tank popping all these bubbles..

I have no idea, I have never used sand but good luck

The bubbles will go away by themselves. Just give it a few days. Having a strong water current will help.

You can't mix sand and gravel and hope the sand will perch on top of the gravel. It won't. What you can do is pour the sand over the gravel and hope it will "fill up" the spaces between the gravel grains. Then pour on some more sand, and some of that will stay on top. This does more or less work, it's what I've done with my tank, see below.

Cheers,

Neale
