Hi All

My new aquarium (Fluval Venezia 350) has just arrived and I would like to have it planted but have no prior experience with planted aquaria.

Essentially I want a decent looking balanced aquarium that is relatively low maintenance. I am thinking of doing the following:

Standard lighting (just over 1wpg)

Red Sea Turbo Bio C02 System with own yeast mix. I know this is supposed to be good for a smaller tank but I figured that with low light I probably don't need additional CO2 but that suplementing it would be better than not doing so - and no chance of overdosing.

Seachem Flourish using recommended dosage.

Not too much testing etc.

Does anyone see any major flaws in my logic?

Thanks

No not really, the key will be to chose the right plants. If you get undemanding ones then there is no reason why this couldn't work.

Sam

PS - before you ask ;) there is a link in my sig to a list of easy/undemanding plants.

On the forum we generally reccomend a few places.
greenline if you want to fill up the tank with algae busters and general basic plants.
Aquaessentials for those speical plants that really make an aquascape.
You can also get rare, possibly cheap plants from AquaticMagic (an ebay shop)

Doesn't the venezia range come with HO T5's? if so your WPG will nearly double!

Hmmm - checked the tubes  and the two main ones say 39W HO and the little ones just say 8W. Does this mean that I have a higher effective wattage?

yes, i have 2 x 24w HO T5s on a 40 g which works out at 1.2WPG, it is more like 2.4WPG but i call it 2wpg just to be on the safe side!
