Hello all, I have been reading for a while now and thought it time to ask a few questions and say hello!!

I have had my tank set up for around 7 months now, I have 4 platy's, 2 molly's, 3 guppies and 2 RCS. Have a planted aquarium sand based and a moss ball for the shrimp. Most of my females have had pregnancys but I have never seen the fry(assume they have been eaten) but I bought my guppies the other day little did i know one was ready to drop until i got her home. So as I bought a fry trap thought I would give it a go. Put her in last night and woop woop fry in the morning, how long should I keep them in the trap? Is the mother ok, she wont leave the side of the trap after I removed her?

On a seperate note since putting the new fish in I have noticed browny coloured sludge on the tank sides mainly near the sand base, it rubs off but was a bit worried what it was!!

Leave the fry in the trap until you think they are big enough not to be eaten.

The brown sludge will be diatoms, you get it when there is a slight trace of ammonia in the water; just make sure you keep your water clean and it will eventually disappear :)

Thanks a lot any idea on the mother Guppy?

Oh and water changes when I have fry in the tank, do I keep the routine the same? 50% weekly water change?
