Hello everyone. I decided to join since I felt there to be some good advice after reading for a few weeks.
I just started up a 20gallon (wide). Funny how the confidence comes back real fast.
Anyway I`m set up with plant substrate, Rena 30 with 30G heater, aeration pump going, (concentrated limestone puck which I make), and water from my outdoor filtered pond. The pond is healthy except no more fish (racoon and Blue Heron) took them out. I have used some media (bacteria) from my wet BIO. I don`t have ammonia at this point so I`m throwing in gold fish flakes at this point. I was even thinking of throwing in a few "feeder" goldies just to get things moving along in the cycle.

I guess we will see how it goes .

:hi: look forward to hear about your progress and hopefully you'll be able to post some pics soon.again,welcome.

:hi: You need to get a big tacky fake Heron for your outdoor pond to keep the Herons at bay. lol

Rainbowfish should be kept in groups of 6 or more and this should help reduce any aggression. Males have longer more pointed fins and females have shorter more rounded fins. Males are usually more brightly coloured.
Any idea what species of rainbowfish you have. Common names aren't very good for identification purposes.
