hey guys, im a bit new to keeping community fish and i was looking for some advice. Ive kept cichlids since i was 7, but i wanted to try something new. i converted a 60 gal of mine into a community tank with these fish.
2 opaline gouramis
2 gold gourami
1 male sunset sailfin molly- very very very horny
1 male sailfin molly
1 female huge black balloon molly
1 male mickymouse platy
1 female pineapple swordtail
1 brilliant rasbpora
1 giant danio
4 zebra danios
3 black neon tetras
5 tiger barbs
2 angel fish
1 german ram
3 tinfol barbs
1 pleco

im not sure if this is overstocked, and if it is let me know. also can platys and swordtails crossbreed? can mollies of different types breed too? any help is appreciated. im very interested in breeding livebearers and i am willing to remove any fish that will reduce my chances. also, my sunset sailfin molly chaises every fish behind and tries to mate with them. i bought the huge balloon molly when she looked like she swallowed a golf ball, now she dropped her fry and reduced in size. the problem is i havent see any fry left over. sorry for the long post and the bad grammar and punctuation errors. (i am in a bit of a hurry)

I'd say it's WAY overstocked. :/

First of all,the tiger barbs get quite large, the angelfish get large, and the pleco is going to get to be about a foot long. If I were you I'd get rid of everything else and keep those fish in the large 60 tank. It's no wonder you have no fry left. lol I'm sure the angelfish, barbs, the ram and probably everything else has been munching on them easily.

You really need to research the barbs, angelfish and pleco. IMO they need that tank to themselves. I'm not sure about the ram,but check that too. You could go on with all of these fish in this tank, but it will turn into a disaster eventually down the road and probably soon. You need to research and choose what fish need what space and compatibility. :)

When you say converted do you mean you took other fish out and put them somewhere else and then put these guys in or was this tank empty for a time. Check out the pinned topic about cycling your tank - that's why I'm asking... seems like you are a little over stocked to me and if the tank wasn't cycled; more so. Best of luck - feel free to ask questions. Some folks here are VERY helpful.

Oh and welcome to the forum :D

hopuflly the little suckers are just hiding really well.. i know i couldnt find mine for a good 2 hours.. it took forever to scoop out 25 little fry and put them in my breeding net...unfortunatetly i am only down to 4 fry now... i have a severe problem..

the tank has been running steady for 3 years. when i first had it i used gravel from an old and running tank and i used a used filter cartridge. geez i didn't know i thought it was an inch per gallon. the plecos are fine, i have a pretty large pond they can go to whenever. i have about 5 over 8 inches. the only think that sucks is i cant return the fish any more. i think ill just use the tinfoils as dithers, try to give the angel fish away, and just let my devil take care of anything else . also, is it possible to take regular plants and put them in an aqaurium? i know some pike keepers keep leaves and such from different trees.

3 years? That is in your favor! You aren't terrible overstocked for some of them are going to get larger. Don't know about your plant question.

it sounds like u have a few to many fish, which wud usually be ok depending on how big they get. but angels arent really community fish IMO.

The fry will have all been eaten by now. angel fish will swallow nething that fits in their mouths, so neva keep neon tetras with them (for future reference) or fry, as its not their fault, they just swallow as they swim.

if ur keen on breeding, u sud try and get sum floating plants, i neva thought that they cud help until i got sum, and i now have 4 fry!! (i went away for the weekend but at least i found those)

platys and sword tails will crossbreed, but its not usually advisable, as u will get deformed babies in some cases.

u cud try setting a tank of just mollys, plattys and swordtails up if u wud like to breed them. wen breeding livebearers, try and use gravel, and floating plants, this will help the babies survive.

i think with the fish u have u may well end up having to set up 2 other tanks if u can, that way they can all have their own space. angel fish CANNOT be kept in small tanks, as if they damage their fins/feelers they will die in a short amount of time.

next time u decide to set up a tank, try to make sure that u have read up abt them, that way u will know how big they get, who can live happily with who, and that kinda thing.

i wud suggest that u get more female mollys, but since ur over stocked, u need to sort that out first.

GUD LUCK!!

thanks a lot guys for the help. how do the babies turn out between platy and sword tail? would it harm the mother giving birth or anything? i really like those 2 and they seem to have formed into a couple. if anyone here keeps regular plants in their tanks please let me know if its okay. thanks a lot guys
