Okay I have just gotten interested in Cichlids and know more about SA and CA then I do african. So I need alittle help with a couple of fish one I got a couple of days ago the other I haven't gotten yet. I have a 55G with young P. Socolofi, yellow labs un ID'd, un ID'd. I will get the pics up of my un ID'd as soon as possible. But my first question, would a Red Empress be ok in a 55G? I know they get to be around 6 in.

PS: Most of the fish I have gotten all came from the same tank of varied cichlids, the only reason I need help with the ID of two is because the lady who knows everything about the cichlids had the day off.

hello and welcome to malawis. I would not advise putting the red empress in a 55 gallon tank with your mbuna, a bigger tank with more open swimming space would be fine. pluss, are you aware that the empress have a totaly different diet to your mbuna? here is a link which I think you may enjoy reading, it will help you understand the different malawis and there habbits. enjoy

Okay thank you. Is there anything you would reccomend for an eye catcher? I know it's hard to reccomend something until I get the names of my other 2 fish. I got a pic of my big guy as I like to call him, because he's my biggest fish, but I need to get it up on here. I can attempt to describe him, he has a similar body shape to the red empress, with smaller/shorter fins, and has yellows fins and the rest of his body is a really dark grayish brown almost black. Yet again I know it's hard to make an ID on him without a pic I'm working on it.

thats a good website you have suggested there kim, I to am a member of it, like this site theres some very knowlegable people, I got some of my fish from wymcot, who is himself a great guy. the only downfall, is that I found that you had to be main stream to get your questions answered, they tend to foreget to look at the begginers section. :good:

with regards to the diet of these fish, here is another link, I stumled across this one last night!
