New Three Spot Gourami & Bolivian Rams

Welcome to God's country(Georgia).
The rams are nice, though never kept em myself. The Gouramis are so cute when that size.

While you were possibly setting up a new tank to qt those guys I was breaking down my 8 gallon bowfront tank :( have no use for it ATM. Using my fry tank as a qt so it was empty so I cleaned it up and put it away. I'm becoming a regular keeper lol. This is everything extra I have lying around:
2 air pumps (1 petco up to 13 gallons 1 profile 1000)
1 50 watt heater
1 100 watt heater
1 aqueon 30 filter
1 tetra T1 energizer filter (10 gallons)
1 tank
1 light
1 hood
1 30 gallon max metal stand with shelf
1 bag of sand
Tons of deco
20-30 lb of gravel ghat I hope I'll never use

And that's all for just in case lol :)

I have never heard and seen a colour difference like that on a 3 spot gourami; are you not confused with a pearl gourami?

The rams are very nice by the way. So, did you set up a new tank to quarantine them? :hey:

I am loving the rams!!!

They don't sell pearls at my petsmart...or not since I've been going there. It looks like a three spot with a little opaline mix...but the opaline are just a color variant from 3 spots, from what I've read. i picked her especially because she's pretty..i need to get better pics... I haven't seen pearls ...i will look when i get home.

I wAsnt at a fishstore just now. Honest :-/

Lol i tried to grab a spare 10g today but hubbys smartly suggested that we let the fry all grow up together in the 46 until we take themb to the fishstore. I hadn't moved them all to the fry tank yet. i have two filters in the now fry/QT tank. Should be good

Hope all goes well for you! I'm busy packing ugh.

Ohh I just realized what you meant Lu. I was using my phone and got lost in translation. I may have confused that in my research this morning. I know why I may have all females. I went back to petsmart and there were only 2 other blue gouramis and they were female. I am going to call my lfs and see if they will keep an eye out for any males they get in of a similar size.

My hubby is going to pick up one more ram tomorrow, they had two more and one looked pretty good tonight. Then we will have 6 which is a nice rounded number for aggression.

Sounds like you have a very helpful husband, wish my wife was as enthusiastic.....

lol enthusiastic is not really the word I would use. :) He likes looking at the fish and that's about it.

We are really loving the gouramis. They are so cute! I was really worried to have all of these territorial fish in a small tank together, even just for a few days, but I don't see any that look overly stressed. The gouramis have really nice color today. I can't wait to see how they look in the 46g :)

I just got (2) Bolivian Rams for Zach's tank...............they were only $4-99 each. The German Blue Rams were $5.99 and very small in comparision. I raised his water temperature to 79 degrees F and we'll see how it goes. I'm already planning to rehome his Glass Catfish.

When the Blue Gouramis get stressed they turn into Opalines with the tiger strips. The Opalines just get even darker....................

I love my Opaline female & she gets along fine with the Pearl pair.

The photos are not very clear but to me they look like 1 x male and 2 x female gouramis. The females dorsal fin is short and rounded, while the male has a dorsal fin that comes to a point and as he matures that will grow longer to the base of the tail.

Exactly. Here's a pic of a Three Spot Opaline female. Notice the distinctive shape of the body too. Not as tall as a male & much less angular. The dorsal will be long enough to pass the base of the tail on a mature male and a male's anal fin skirt is noticably longer/taller too.

I don't know how far out you are, but have you thought about joining a local club? Other aquarists often have a wide range of fish and many of them breed. Quality is high and you know what you are getting; they won't sell you anything that is not healthy... Plus they will be able to sell you sexed fish as well.

I am really happy I have been able to join one now I am in Montreal; a wealth of information plus access to fish that are otherwise not available to me.

I don't have one within a half hour drive, but there is one I think in Austin. I will have to look into it again. It is frustrating. The knowledge and fish availability here is disappointing.

Thanks for the sexing help! I think he might be a male too and we are going to keep them and see how it goes. They are already losing the stripey look. That was some good info Ruskell, thanks. I thought she would stay that dark.

I will get better photos soon. They were stressed yesterday and darting around wild. The tank is settling in nicely, but the temp is still up so they aren't relaxed completely yet. I was going to lower the temp soon and throw carbon in the filter. Clout is a 24 hour treatment and no sign of spots today.
