i bought some of this new tetra safe start today and it cost me 10 quid and it claims "" tetra safe start speeds up the maturation of the filter to allow more rapid production of fish into a newly set up tank""also is says on the front "" inhibits new tank syndrome ""

the stuff sounds brillaint from what i can read and also the people in my lfs were saying its new and they have tried it and and said its realli good for a beginner and told me if i had any problems with it he would happily come over and have alook

just wanted to know wht you guys and girls thought of it ?

It's being marketed as absolute magic and "even better than stress zyme"

I might work in an LFS but seriously. I have not tried this new product at all, but I have tried every single bottled "biostart" type rubbish available on the market and my sincere opinion is that none of them work whatsoever.

Tried it, didn't work. If you've only paid £10 I'm guessing it's for a small tank as for a large one it would cost around £25. Not a cheap method especially if it doesn't work.

I dont get how these kind of products are meant to work. It cant contain any of the bacteria cos surely it would have died after being on the shelf for months. So what does it contain that's so useful for starting the tank???

ammonia neutralizers. really, by using anything that "inhibits new tank syndrome" other than live beneficial bacteria colonies, you're only delaying the true start of your nitrogen cycle

The only product on the market that works is Bio-Spira nothing else has been proven to work yet.

Tetra easy start says that you can add fish on the same day you set the tank up. It does not say how many or what sort. It is basicaly bottled nitraspira. It does speed up the maturation process but I wouldn't reccommend adding fish on day one. Downsides to the product include the fact that it shouldn't be stored above 30degrees C. or it will die, how hot has your LFS been this summer and indeed even the lorry on the way to the shop. I think its a product that has potential to be great for the hobby but the wording on the label needs to be reworked so that its a bit more fish friendly in its reccomendations of use. Would be interested on any feedback from people who have used it.
