You can't reliably sex yellow labs at a young age, at this point it's more of a guess then anything. I always start with extra juveniles to make certain, so if I wanted a harem of 4 I'd start with 6 or 7 juvi's.

Acei, Sprengerae, and Saulosi are all decent tankmates to go with the labs, though Sprengerae is the best because it shares the closest diet - Saulosi in particular are more vulnerable to Bloat.

Jim, choose any one of those three mbuna and you can add it with the labs. Peacocks work as well. Other then that you have very few options as to what you can do because of limited space.

New worlds and Tanganyikans are not a great idea, but in truth a single specimen brichardi would probably do just fine - they are not aggressive except when breeding, and labs don't have the herbivorous diet of other mbuna.
