I am about to go out and purchase a new tank for bringing on my platy and bristlenose fry (when my b.noses get round to that). I cant remember the name of the tank or its actual size/capacity.

I already have a fully cycled mature tank with all my fish in which has never had a problem in it

Q. Can I speed up the cycling of the new tank by adding some of the plants or water?

Q. If I put the new filter sponge in between my current sponges for a week or so will this help??

I want to speed the cycling up a bit as I want my fry in there asap but I dont want to cheat or skimp on it as it will just kill my fry. Advice required please.

Adding the mature water won't have any benifit for you. What will help is putting the new sponge in your old filter for a week or so (as you've already considered) and maybe putting a handful of your substrate into the new tank (if you're having any substrate that is)

Good luck

The water wont help? ok.

No idea whether to have sustrate or not - probably will. If it will help I can take it all from the old tank and add the new to the old tank.

Will adding a couple of fish from my current setup help (thinking of zebra danios) or should I stick with fishless??
