New tank

What is your GH? We need to know this before giving stocking suggestions. You can find the GH on your local water providers website. We need an exact number and the unit of measurement:)

Hello and welcome to the forum, As @JuiceBox52 indicated we need to know what type of water do you have, is it hard or soft and what is the GH general hardness and PH. This way we can help you pick out the right fish for you water.

According to Severn Trent the water is moderately hard and a rating of 10.90

Essjay will be able to sort this out, she is in the UK and has "chemistry" connections. But she will want to know the unit they use, can you give that, or a link to the site?

I was just going off of the “hardness clark”

The hobby uses two scales, degrees German (abbreviated as dG or dH or dGH) and parts per million (ppm). It is easy to switch back and forth by using 17.9, divide ppm by 17.9 to get the equivalent dGH, or multiply dGH by 17.9 to get the equivalent ppm. [And ppm is the same as mg/l which some non-hobby sources use.] I prefer dGH simply because the numbers are smaller and I find them easier to remember.

I guess we have done essjay out of the job this time ;) as you have 8.72 dGH or equivalent is 156 ppm. This is moderately soft water, though some might say moderately hard. I prefer moderately soft because no hard water species will do well in water this low of a GH. You have a number of options for a small tank with soft water species. Avoid hard water fish like all livebearers, they need at least 10 dGH or some higher than that.

How about you look up some fish that you like and we can tell you how compatible they are :)

Not in a 10 gallon. What about microrasbora like chili rasbora or kubotai rasboras?

Agree, the tank size is now the limiting factor. But there are a numnber of small sized fish suited to this water. JuiceBox mentioned a couple, also Ember Tetras, pygmy cories (if you have a sand substrate), Rocket Pencilfish, and others I could probably think of given time.
