A few weeks ago, as some of you may recall, my sister and I got another 55 gallon which we promptly dropped on her foot, nearly breaking the foot. The tank was unharmed so after some recovery, we went ahead with arranging the tank and cycling. I donated media from my 55 gallon, so it was good to go in about a week. Then we ran into some hard financial times. I got a new job and we each sold some of our smaller tanks (I sold my Fluval chi, she her 6 gallon but her 5 and 2.5 are still up for sale). Yesterday she got paid and, with the money from her tank sale, purchased a small shoal of rummy nose tetras. Currently there are nine, but we are going to be adding more weekly until there are twenty. Next week she is getting five more and eight panda corydoras.

Once the tetras are fully stocked and the cats have gone in, she's going to get two pairs of cockatoo apistos. Then we may add one angelfish (your thoughts?) or a dwarf gourami (?).

Regardless, we also have in the tank one male guppy to be moved into a ten gallon after some molly fry move out and one dwarf balloon molly (male). It is in the process of getting planted (jungle Val, amazon sword, ludwigia repens, penny wort), but it is not totally done yet. Any more suggestions for hardy plants will be excellent. Also, what sort of centerpiece would any of you suggest for the tank? I'm talking decor here, not fish. It's looking a little bare now, but we think something kind of large and natural would look splendid. We're just out of ideas.

There's the new tank. Yes, it is in front of a window, but it goes into my garage so it is never in any danger of getting extra light (unless the garage light is on, which it is in this picture). Please also ignore the hideous curtains we have yet to replace. My mother is supposed to be making some...

As mentioned above (but I'll put it in list form):

20x rummy nose tetra
1x balloon molly
8x panda Cory
4x cockatoo apisto
1x angelfish (?)
1x dwarf gourami (?)

I mean, I always like how wood looks in a tank. and if you live by a lake - surely there will be some there!

Yeah either a nice hunk of wood or a few amazon swords would really fill that on.

We live near two rivers and a creek, so finding some wood won't be an issue, it's just a matter of finding wood that won't rot quickly and won't leech out any pollutants. Anyone know how to make sure the wood is all safe?
