hi all, i bought a juwel rio 180 on thursday last week , this is my first tank.
i put the substrate in the bottom and then covered it with about 1 inch of silica sand and filled it with water .
i have some bog wood in a bucket of water to try and get rid of the tannins (im emptying and refilling every day),i plan on planting the tank but i want to cycle it first .
so ive been doing water tests useing the api master test kit,

date.........ph.......ammonia..........nitrite...........nitrate

06/07/12.... 8.0 ..... 0.25 ......... not tested ......... 10

08.07.12 added 8.5ml of ammonia to raise it to 4.0ppm

09/07/12.... 8.0 .... 2.0 ........... 0.25 .............. 10

i dont under stand how the ammonia has droped 2ppm in 24 hours but that could just be me miss reading the test on the 08/07/12.

i have turned up the heater so the temp is around 30 degres.

am i doing everything right ? any advice welcome.

thanks in advance, chris.

when it get to 0ppm redose 4ppm and test every 24 hours and see what the ammonia lvl is and redose again to 4ppm when it reaches 0ppm, when the 4ppm of ammonia is being consumed in 12 hours keep redoseing for a week then add your fish.
